Look back but don’t stare.

how often do we feel like we are drowning? I know that I’ve gone through periods in my life where I couldn’t even identify what I was feeling. But what I do know is that by facing past trauma, childhood wounds, abusive relationships that I put in a box — thinking somehow I could make the pain go away.

Does that ever work? Of course not. there’s a saying in Al Anon: look back but don’t stare. In fourth step in recovery we not only look at our weaknesses and strengths, we look at where we were hurt, but then we go through the rest of the steps to heal and then try and be an inspiration to others.

I will never been an enlightened  master, but I know that when I pray, meditate, do yoga every day, write my gratitude lists, engage in spiritual study – whether it’s A Course in Miracles, reading from conference approved recovery literature and more – working on codependency, it really is like going to the gym every day.

My life now isn’t perfect but it’s amazing. I have peace every day. I feel loved and have abundance in my life. Do I have I challenges? Hell yeah. But getting into alignment with higher power, well let’s just say that my life looks nothing like it did even a few years ago. There’s no such thing as second chances, higher power gives us endless chances.
